About the Artist

I grew up on the coast of California where I studied art and dance in college and later moved to New York City to study modern dance with Merce Cunningham. I eventually moved to Maine and began playing cello as a way to relieve job related stress. About this time, my mother began making beautiful hand sewn quilts and I became inspired by the geometric patterns and colorful fabrics. Remembering my dismal sewing abilities in 8th grade “home ec” class, I decided to forego the sewing, and began creating my own hand painted designs incorporating my background in painting, music, and dance. Each collage piece begins as a variety of hand painted designs using gouache on watercolor paper. The paper is then cut and glued onto mat board. I make paper earrings using a similar technique with the addition of beads and pieces of silver wire as embellishments. I also create paintings inspired by music, dance, and patterns found in nature. The beautiful lakes and coast of Maine provide me with ongoing inspiration.
